Paul Ricks Obituary in San Francisco Chronicle

It was very touching to see Paul's obituary in the San Francisco Chronicle on Wednesday, highlighting his Super career. An unfortunate error by the author, Steve Rubenstein, characterizing him a "spear chucker" instead of a "spear carrier" was carried in all print editions. It has since been fixed on line, a correction appeared in Thursday's paper, and I received the following email from Steve:

Dear Mark,

Thanks for writing and for the kind words.  I am horrified that I got the term wrong.  I plead ignorance, which is a common plea of mine, and I apologize, which we reporters tend to do a lot of.

I was trying to help the average reader, who I thought was probably not familiar with the term "supernumerary."  Me and my big ideas.

Your website is terrific and I was delighted to learn that Stephanie Salter, who is one of my heroes, is a supernumerary.  If she does it, it can't be all bad.

With all best wishes,

Steve
